I now have proof that your find of Nunzio Defeo immigrating 1902 is my Nunzio with father Antonio. thank you for your perseverance on this.

Thanks to a wonderful volunteer at rootsweb, he provided various excerpts from BC Archives.
Nunzio Defoe marriage to Govanina at age 23. He was born in San Stephano del Sole. His father was Antonio and mother was Josephine Pistagrela..tho translation of her name could be not exact.

Another record for his death said his mother was Sarah Pisacuta which is a little different than the marriage record.

The differences between Josephine Pistagrela and Sara Pisacuta needs to be addressed but I would assume that maybe Josephine was called Sara in Canada and the surname spellings are just a matter of interpretations or translations.

For his wife, Govinina (marriage record) Giovannina (her death record) said her father was Francesco Colacurcio and mother was Celesta Mastroberardino.

For death record of Celesta Colacurcio it says her father was Sabino Berardino and mothers surname was Callicano or Gallicano. No first name known.
So her surname is either Mastroberardino or Berardino. Are you familiar with these surnames?

You were talking about Nunzio 1 (born on 1883) and Nunzio 2 (born on 1921)... don't know why you were so sure that the father of Nunzio 1 was another Nunzio

Well, I'm glad you found the right names and lastnames...
I believe the correct lastname for Nunzio 1's mother could have been Pisacreta...
the town were you can find the biggest presence of this lastname is Santo Stefano del Sole...

i don't know where my brain was but i am so glad you kept referring back to the immigration of 1902.

the two web sites you sent were great...especially the one in English. the one in Italian was too difficult for me as i do not know Italian. if my mother was here with me should would be able to read it.

I am now on the search for when Antonio DeFeo emigrated.
I found 3 during 1855-1900 to NY.
all i have is their ages, manifest# last residence and destination.

was wondering if anyone can find more info. i am not member of ancestry so cannot find out more.

I came across your postings regarding Colacurcio and DeFeo and am also researching the same names. My grandfather (stefano Colacurcio) was born in Sorbo Serpico and i have the films from Sorbo Serpico and Santo Stefano Del Sole here at the FHC in Tacoma WA. I will be going to look at the films again this week and would be happy to check and see if i can find your people on the films. There are quite a few Colacurcio's in these two towns and also a lot of DeFeo's. Will let you know what i find!

I am so glad to have your help. What a god send! I would appreciate anything you can find. It seems the Defoe name is quite a common name and so difficult to match up family groups without more birth or census information.

I have just recently found a few bits and pieces of the Defoe line. I have found a few census records and the odd immigration record but I just cannot connect the many other Defoe and Colacurio names.

Nunsio or Nutzio or Nunzio (there are so man spellings DeFeo or Defeo or Defoe) born Jul 1882-1884 San Stephano del Sole.
His father was Antonio DeFeo.
His mother was Sarah Pisacuta or Josephine Pistagrela - spellings unreadable.
Children I have for Nunsio & Giovanina are:
Nunsio and probably Annieta or Annible a son. Sure would like the names of their other children if you can find any. It is this Nunsio Jr that I am descendend.
Nunsio immigrated from Naples to Boston Mass Apr 1902 and settled in BC where many Defoes and Colacurcio names have been found.


Nunsio married Giovanina Colacurcio b Nov 1884 Santo Stephano del Sole.
Her father was Francesco Colacurcio b Oct 1857.
Her other was Celesta Berardino or Mastroberardino.
Children I have found for Francesco & Celesta are:
Giovanaina Marie, Emilo and Marian Mina. Sure would like the names of their other children if you can find any.
Giovanina immigrated with her parents who obviously settled in same location as the Defoes.

back again...i found an immigration record but no year on it. forgot to see if their ages were listed.

names that I could read were:

Colacurcio Filomeno had previously been to US 1893-1899 destination Canada - brother Frances

Mastrobererandino Michele and Annibale (spelling?) destination NY

Carpincelli Nunsio de Pelif (spelling?) destination Canada - brother in law Frances Colarucio.

Found on another document...parents for Celesta Colacurcio as Sabino Barardino and no first name for mother but surname Calligano or Gallicano.

maybe these can be searched for also.
